Video game company Nintendo and Osaka-based theme park Universal Studios Japan (USJ) plan to open up a new section of the park called Super Nintendo World in the summer of 2020, much to the excitement of fans around the world.

While many details of the area remain unknown, representatives from Nintendo and USJ announced at a kick-off event that the park will be open before the 2020 Olympic Games begin in Tokyo, and that the entire experience will be an immersive game.

“Super Nintendo World is a life-size, living video game,” Thierry Coup, Senior Vice President at Universal Creative, said at the event. “You are playing it and living the most exciting adventure.”

Some of the attractions at Super Nintendo World, which is themed after the company’s iconic character Mario, will include a real-life version of Mario Kart, restaurants featuring characters from Super Mario series, and an attraction in which you can ride on the character Yoshi’s back.

The biggest revelation from the kick-off event was news that visitors to the park would get special wristbands, called “Power Up Bands,” that link with a smartphone application. From there, they can keep track of items they find while exploring Super Nintendo World, including coins and stamps.

Super Nintendo World cost an estimated 60 billion yen, making it the most expensive project USJ has ever undertaken. In 2014, they spent 45 billion yen to create the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter.”

Both Nintendo and USJ have high expectations for Super Nintendo World, and aren’t stopping in Osaka. They also have plans to open zones in Orlando, Florida and Singapore in the near future.
